About the author : Anatolia

Invented in Bursa in 1867 by a man named İskender Efendi, and still made his way. The butter is poured at the table.

What is İskender kebab?

İskender kebab has a documented origin: İskender Efendi in Bursa, who is credited with turning the horizontal spit vertical in the 1860s and then building a dish around it. Thin slices of döner are laid over cubes of pita bread, covered with tomato sauce, served with a generous spoon of thick yogurt on the side — and finished with hot melted butter poured over the whole plate at the moment of serving. The bread underneath soaks up the sauce and the butter, which is the entire architecture of the dish.

How we prepare it at Anatolia Grill

We use our own veal döner, carved fresh from the spit, over pita with tomato sauce and yogurt, and the butter goes on hot. 180 g for 399 CZK. It is the richest way we serve döner, and portioned for one person rather than for sharing.

Take it home from Anatolia Meat Market

The veal comes from our own cattle. The Anatolia Meat Market next door sells the same beef and veal, cut to order by our butcher.

From our own farm, not from a supplier

Anatolia Grill is part of Agro Řeřichy s.r.o., a Czech company that has been working in agriculture, meat processing and gastronomy for more than ten years. We breed our own lambs and fatten our own beef cattle at the farm in Rakovník, process them in our own slaughterhouse, and sell them in our own butchery in Prague — the shop right next to this restaurant. That is the reason the meat on your plate is traceable back to a single chain we control from start to finish.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I eat İskender kebab in Prague?

At Anatolia Grill Restaurant, Na Poříčí 1933/36, Praha 1 — every day from 08:00 until midnight.

What makes İskender different from a normal döner plate?

İskender is built on cubes of pita bread with tomato sauce and yogurt, and hot butter is poured over it at the table. A döner plate is the meat served plainly with grilled vegetables.

Does it contain dairy?

Yes — yogurt and butter are both essential to the dish. Tell your server if you need it prepared differently.

Is it halal?

Yes. The veal comes from our own farm and slaughterhouse.
