About the author : Anatolia
Smoke and cold yogurt in the same spoonful. This is the meze that quietly wins people over who thought they did not like eggplant.
What is yoğurtlu patlıcan (eggplant with yogurt)?
The eggplant is charred whole over direct heat until the skin blisters and the flesh inside collapses and takes on smoke. That smoky flesh is then chopped — not pureed — and folded through thick garlic yogurt. The contrast is the point: warm smoke against cool dairy, soft against creamy. Across Turkey the same idea appears under different names and in different proportions, and every household insists on its own.
How we prepare it at Anatolia Grill
We grill the eggplants over the same charcoal we cook the kebabs on, which is where the flavour comes from — an eggplant softened in an oven simply does not taste like this. It is chopped by hand so there is still texture, mixed with garlic and thick yogurt, and served cool with warm bread. 139 CZK.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I eat Turkish eggplant meze in Prague?
At Anatolia Grill Restaurant on Na Poříčí, Praha 1, every day from 08:00 until midnight.
Is it vegetarian?
Yes. Eggplant, yogurt and garlic — vegetarian, though not vegan because of the yogurt.
What is the difference between this and şakşuka or köpoğlu?
This one is grilled eggplant in yogurt. Şakşuka is fried eggplant and vegetables under tomato sauce. Köpoğlu adds roasted peppers to the eggplant-and-yogurt combination. All three are on our menu.
Does it go with grilled meat?
Very well. The cool yogurt is a deliberate counterweight to charcoal-grilled lamb — order it alongside Adana kebap or lamb chops.
