About the author : Anatolia
Forty sheets of pastry, each one rolled thin enough to read through. That is the number, and it is why nobody makes baklava at home.
What is baklava?
Baklava is built from dozens of layers of yufka — pastry rolled so thin it is translucent — brushed with butter, packed with finely chopped nuts, baked, and then soaked in syrup while still hot. The craft is entirely in the rolling: a baklava master in Gaziantep, the city most associated with it, spends years learning to roll a single sheet. The syrup has to go on at the right temperature or the layers turn to paste instead of staying separate and crisp. Good baklava shatters when you press a fork into it.
How we prepare it at Anatolia Grill
Ours is cut into the traditional diamond shapes and served at 229 CZK. It is the standard end to a grill meal here, usually with Turkish coffee or tea — the bitterness of both is the deliberate counterweight to the syrup.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I eat baklava in Prague?
At Anatolia Grill Restaurant, Na Poříčí 1933/36, Praha 1, every day from 08:00 until midnight.
Does baklava contain nuts?
Yes — chopped nuts are the filling. Please tell your server before ordering if you have a nut allergy.
What should I drink with baklava?
Turkish coffee (79 CZK) or Turkish tea (39 CZK). Both are bitter enough to balance the syrup, which is why they are the traditional pairing.
Is baklava vegetarian?
Yes, though it contains butter and is therefore not vegan.
